UAA's McGill, Wiggs selected to All-GNAC Preseason Team

PORTLAND, Ore. (Oct. 21) – Alaska Anchorage senior Brian McGill and junior Sekou ‘Suki’ Wiggs have each been named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s 2015-16 Preseason All-GNAC Men’s Basketball Team, released Thursday by the league office. McGill, a 6-2, 185-pound point guard, is the Seawolves’ leading returning scorer at 13.8 points per game, earning honorable mention All-GNAC honors last spring. The Clackamas, Ore., native posted top-15 league ranks in six different categories as a junior, including third in assists per game (5.3), 12th in scoring and 11th both three-point (.419) and free-throw (.794) percentages. A preseason all-league pick as well last year, McGill was an All-GNAC Second Team honoree as a sophomore in 2013-14. Wiggs, 6-4, 190-pound combo guard, is expected to make big contributions in his first season in Green & Gold, having averaged 10.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 61 career games at Div. I Idaho. The Vandals’ third-leading scorer last year with 11.5 ppg, Wiggs also was tabbed the Western Athletic Conference’s Sixth Man of the Year as a freshman in 2013-14. The Preseason All-GNAC Team is selected by a vote of the league’s 11 head coaches. The Seawolves – picked fourth of 11 teams in last week’s preseason poll – open the season Oct. 30-Nov. 1 with three games at the CCA Div. II Tip-Off Classic in Southern California.
