PORTLAND, Ore. (July 30) – The men’s basketball program at the University of Alaska Anchorage and four individual Seawolf players joined a distinguished list of academic honorees as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the organization’s 2014-15 Team Academic Excellence  Honors Court awards this week.

The Seawolves were among 175 teams nationwide – of more than 1,000 at NCAA Div. I, II and III, and NAIA levels – selected for NABC’s Team Academic Excellence Awards. The program, now in its third season, recognizes outstanding achievement by a men’s basketball program with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better during the academic year. In order to qualify, teams must count GPAs of all rostered athletes that competed during the season.

Among Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, UAA and Seattle Pacific were the lone honorees.

Additionally, senior guard Travis Thompson led four Seawolves on the NABC Honors Court roll, with the CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American being joined by senior center Brad Mears, junior guard Kevin Bowman and redshirt sophomore guard Travis Parrish. The program honors outstanding achievement by men’s basketball players of junior or senior academic standing who finish the academic year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better.
