PORTLAND, Ore. (Oct. 8) – Alaska Anchorage guard Travis Thompson has been named to the Division II Bulletin Super 16 preseason All-American basketball team as the publication announced its top 25 poll and preseason honors this week.
A 6-1 senior from Anchorage’s Dimond High School, Thompson finished second in the GNAC in scoring last season, averaging 21.3 points per game. He made 109 of 259 three-pointers (.421) and also shot 89.2 percent from the foul line.
An NABC Second Team All-West Region and First Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection last year, Thompson begins this season just 41 three-pointers shy of UAA’s career record and within striking distance of becoming the No. 2 all-time scorer in program history.
The Seawolves were also on D-II Bulletin’s ‘Teams to Watch’ list, while GNAC foes Western Washington and Seattle Pacific were ranked ninth and 22nd, respectively.
Along with Thompson, UAA also returns Second Team All-GNAC point guard Brian McGill (15.6 ppg, 5.9 apg, .833 FT), senior post Brad Mears (4.4 apg, 2.9 rpg) and junior forward Christian Leckband (4.5 apg, 2.9 rpg) among its regulars from a year ago.
