OSTRAVA, Czech Republic – Former Alaska Anchorage All-American Taylor Rohde is taking his pro career farther east this year, recently signing a contract with BK Nova Hut Ostrava in the Czech Republic’s National Basketball League.
Rohde, who was the NCAA Div. II National Player of the Year at UAA in 2011-12, played his first two professional seasons in Germany’s top league. Last year the 6-9, 205-pound power forward averaged 13.2 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 61 percent from the floor for Ehingen. Rohde spent his rookie season with Heidelberg.
Ostrava, the second-largest metropolitan area in the Czech Republic, is located near the Polish border. The club finished eighth in the 12-team NBL last year.
Originally from Phoenix, Rohde was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a consensus All-American for the Seawolves in 2011-12 when he averaged 19.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. In his two seasons at UAA, the Seawolves combined to go 47-17, including two trips to the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
