ANCHORAGE (June 25) – The Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team will make 19 home appearances this winter when it takes the court at the Alaska Airlines Center as head coach Rusty Osborne unveiled his squad’s 2015-16 schedule on Thursday.
The Seawolves begin the year with a trip to the prestigious D2 Tip-Off Classic in Anaheim, California, Oct. 30-Nov. 1, where they will face three to-be-announced opponents.
UAA makes its home debut with games against Lincoln Christian (Illinois), Nov. 6-7, before traveling north to Fairbanks for key in-region contests against longtime rivals Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific in the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge, Nov. 13-14.
Home tournaments dominate the final weeks of November as UAA continues a busy slate against Life Pacific (California) and regional foe Cal State Dominguez Hills in the annual Seawolf Jamboree, Nov. 20-21, followed by the GCI Great Alaska Shootout, Nov. 25-28 at the Alaska Airlines Center. Visiting for the 38th annual Shootout is Drexel, Loyola (Chicago), Middle Tennessee, UNC Asheville, San Diego, San Jose State and Toledo.
The 20-game GNAC slate starts with big home games against Central Washington on Dec. 3 and Northwest Nazarene on Dec. 5, followed by a final non-league game against Northwest Indian on Dec. 14, and the Seawolf Alumni exhibition on Dec. 19.
GNAC play resumes with a New Year’s Eve showdown at Seattle Pacific and continues through the regular-season finale at CWU on Feb. 27.
Other big dates on the GNAC home schedule include Jan. 9 against Western Washington, Jan. 30 against SPU, Feb. 11 against Alaska Fairbanks and Feb. 20 against defending champion Western Oregon on ‘senior night.’
The sixth annual GNAC Championships return this year to the Saint Martin’s University campus in Lacey, Wash., Mar. 2-5, while the NCAA Div. II West Regional Championships are set for Mar. 11-14 at a to-be-determined campus host site.
