Coaches tab UAA's Thompson for All-District honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Mar. 23) – Alaska Anchorage senior Travis Thompson has added a final honor to his list of career accomplishments, earning a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches Div. II All-District Second Team.

Monday’s award recognizes Thompson as one of the top 11 players among the 36 teams in the NCAA Div. II West Region.

A 6-1 guard, Thompson was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s fourth-leading scorer with 16.8 points per game, shooting 43 percent from the three-point line and 83 percent at the free-throw stripe. The local Dimond High School product also dished 3.5 assists per game as he ranked among the NCAA Div. II top 25 stats leaders in three-point percentage, three-pointers per game (3.1) and assist/turnover ratio (2.9).

Thompson scored more than 20 points on 11 occasions this year, moving up to No. 2 on UAA’s all-time scoring list and No. 12 on the GNAC list with 1,667 for his career. Also the school and GNAC career three-point king, he became the first player in league history to surpass 300 three-pointers (302).

Thompson also received second-team distinction on Mar. 13 on the Daktronics NCAA Div. II All-West Region squad, chosen by sports information directors. He collected First Team All-GNAC honors for the second straight season, and he was a Second Team All-GNAC pick as a sophomore in 2011-12.

The Seawolves finished 16-13 overall this season and tied for third place in the GNAC with a 12-6 mark.
