ANCHORAGE (Nov. 21) – The Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball program has added its second recruit during the early signing period as coach Rusty Osborne announced Thursday that Nevada prep standout Brian Pearson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seawolves next season.
A 6-9 forward, Pearson helped Elko High School to the NIAA Class 3A State ‘Final Four’ as a junior last winter. Playing for an EHS squad that finished 24-4 and ran through and unbeaten Northern 3A league schedule, Pearson averaged 9.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, shooting 54 percent from the field and 36 percent from the three-point line.
“We are pleased with the addition of Brian,” said Osborne, whose current squad moved into the national rankings this week at No. 21. “He not only has good size but is also versatile enough to play both post and power forward. He has the ability to step out and make the three-point shot, which is big in our offense. However, at 6-9 he can also battle down low around the basket.”
Pearson also plays for the Oregon Ambassadors D1 AAU squad during the summer.
“As he continues to fill out physically and get stronger, he will have a chance to make a big impact in the GNAC over the next 4 years,” Osborne added. “He and Kalidou Diouf will give us a very talented freshman frontcourt duo next year. In addition to his on-court abilities, he is a very talented student who plans to enroll in our civil engineering program.”
Pearson joins fellow incoming freshman Damien Fulp (G, 6-1, Palmer/Colony HS) as the Seawolves’ first two signees for the 2014-15 season.
