SPOKANE, Wash. (Jan. 2) – Alaska Anchorage senior Taylor Rohde was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week for men’s basketball on Monday, following his play in an impressive home sweep of Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene last week.
The 6-9 center from Phoenix, Ariz. (Pinnacle HS/Arizona State) totaled 44 points, connecting on 16 of 23 field goals and 12 of 14 free throws as 20th-ranked UAA knocked off defending GNAC champ CWU 99-62 on Dec. 29 and NNU 85-62 on Dec. 31.
Rohde had a career-high three steals in Thursday’s win and averaged a team-best 6.5 rebounds for the week as the Seawolves (9-2, 3-0 GNAC) stayed unbeaten against Div. II competition. The preseason All-American currently leads the GNAC in field-goal percentage (.627) and ranks second in scoring (20.1 ppg) and third in rebounding (8.5 rpg). It is Rohde’s third career POW honor in just one and a half seasons with the Seawolves.
UAA takes its nine-game winning streak on the road this week to face Montana State Billings on Thur., Jan. 5 (5 p.m. AST) and Seattle Pacific on Sat., Jan. 7 (6 p.m. AST).
