UAA's Rohde shares GNAC weekly award

SPOKANE, Wash. (Jan. 3) – Alaska Anchorage junior Taylor Rohde was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s co-Player of the Week for men’s basketball on Monday, following an impressive road sweep for the Seawolves to begin league play.

The 6-9 center from Phoenix, Ariz. (Pinnacle HS/Arizona State) totaled 40 points and 20 rebounds as UAA knocked off nationally 11th-ranked Central Washington, 98-93 in double overtime Dec. 30, than beat Northwest Nazarene 78-71 on New Year’s Day.

Against the Wildcats in Ellensburg, Rohde totaled 28 points and 15 rebounds – both UAA season-bests – along with a pair of blocks. He shot 8 of 14 from the floor and 12 of 15 at the free-throw line, scoring the Seawolves’ first seven points of the second overtime to put his team up for good. Rohde’s effort marked the first 25-point/15-rebound effort by a Seawolf since Brian Hills put up 28 and 16 in a Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout win over High Point in 2004.

Two nights later in Nampa, Rohde had 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-2 FT) and five rebounds to help UAA snap a four-game losing streak against the Crusaders and start 2-0 in the GNAC for the first time since 2007-08.

It is the second GNAC weekly award for Rohde – who also won the honor after the season-opening Disney Tip-Off Classic in November – and the third for the Seawolves this year (Drew Robinson, Nov. 28-Dec. 5). Rohde shared this week’s award with Western Washington guard John Allen.

UAA returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 5, when it opens its GNAC home slate against Montana State Billings at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. That game will be aired live on Fox Sports Net regional television, tipping off at 6:30 p.m. AST.
