ANCHORAGE (Nov. 26) - St. John's guard Dwight Hardy scored all 11 of his points in the first half and the Red Storm used a tournament-record defensive effort to rout Drake 82-39 in the semifinals of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout on Friday night at Sullivan Arena.

St. John's (3-1) also got a game-high 13 points from forward Justin Brownlee and 10 points from reserve forward Sean Evans to advance to its first Shootout title game against the winner of Friday's late semifinal between Arizona State and Weber State.

Drake (2-2) was led by 10 points apiece from Aaron Hawley and Rayvonte Rice but could not avoid setting the record for fewest points scored in 33 years of Shootout history. The previous record occurred in a 64-44 victory by Illinois over Idaho State in 1984.

After staying close at 22-17 midway through the first half, the Red Storm blitzed the Bulldogs with 23 straight points to finish the stanza, not allowing a Drake field goal until the 17:05 mark of the second half.

St. John's had seven players score at least eight points as the Big East squad outshot their Missouri Valley Conference opponent 57.7 percent to 26.5 percent.

D.J. Kennedy and Justin Burrell grabbed a game-high eight rebounds each and point guard Malik Booth had six assists in the winning effort.

Drake drops into Saturday's 5:30 p.m. third-place game against the Arizona State-Weber State loser. St. John's will play the ASU-WSU winner at 8 p.m., with the victor guaranteed to claim its first Shootout title.
