UAA's Walker named 1st Team All-GNAC

UAA’s Walker earns First Team All-GNAC honors

 

SPOKANE, Wash. – Alaska Anchorage juniors Brandon Walker and Casey Robinson were honored Monday as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its 2009-10 Men’s Basketball All-Conference teams. Walker was a First Team selection, while Robinson received honorable mention in voting by the league’s nine head coaches.

 

Walker, a 6-3 guard from Hayward, Calif. (Bishop O’Dowd HS), was the league’s sixth-leading scorer at 15.4 points per game, while holding other GNAC ranks of 14th in rebounding (5.3 rpg), 12th in field-goal percentage (.509), 16th in assists (2.4 apg) and third in minutes per game (34.9).

 

The former Division I transfer from Loyola Marymount scored in double figures in 22 of his last 25 games as the Seawolves finished 17-10 overall and 8-8 in league play. Walker tallied 20 points or more on nine occasions, including 23 in UAA’s upset of 9th-ranked Seattle Pacific in Saturday’s season finale. In November, he was the second-leading scorer (23.0 ppg) against all-Div. I competition in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, earning all-tournament honors.

 

Robinson, a 6-6 forward, was named honorable mention after ranking second on the Seawolves in scoring (12.0 ppg) and leading the team in three-point shooting (66 of 162, .407) and steals (1.0 spg). The Manila, Utah, native ranked second in the GNAC with 2.4 three-pointers made per game, and he improved across the board in GNAC play, raising his numbers to 13.9 ppg, .419 3FG, 2.8 3FGs per game and .842 FT.
