Trueman MVP at UAA men's basketball banquet

ANCHORAGE (April 25) – Senior Jeremiah Trueman and sophomore Kevin White both took home multiple honors Saturday as the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team held its annual postseason banquet at The Petroleum Club.

Trueman, a 6-9 center, was voted Team MVP and Most Inspirational Player after averaging 15.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game for the Seawolves in 2008-09. The Stratford, New Zealand, native was an honorable mention All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection, and was the only player in NCAA Div. II to rank in the nation's top 25 in both field-goal (.597) and free-throw (.870) percentages.

Trueman also received the prestigious Jim Hajdukovich Award, presented to the player who best displays physical toughness, endurance and court awareness.

White, a 6-4 guard, received the Best Defensive Player award after helping the Seawolves lead the GNAC in scoring defense for the second straight season. The Manly, Australia, native logged 27 starts and led UAA with 60 three-pointers, averaging 8.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists.

White also took home the Bob Zundel Rebounders Club Trophy, bestowed on the player who best displays the qualities of sportsmanship and leadership toward teammates, coaches, referees, opponents, media and fans.

The Most Improved Player award went to sophomore Lonnie Ridgeway, who quadrupled his scoring average (from 2.3 to 9.6 ppg) and nearly tripled his rounding numbers (1.3 to 3.7 rpg) from his rookie season. The Anchorage native (Heritage Christian HS) was UAA's fourth-leading scorer and shot 51.2 percent from the field.

Chris Neal, a 6-5 forward from Sydney, Australia, earned the Academic Achievement award for his flawless 4.0 grade-point average.

In addition to the player honors, longtime boosters Bobbi Olson, Steve Nerland, Bill Hopper and Bob Vogt were recognized with the Rebounders Booster Club Service Award for overall dedication to the program.
