PORTLAND, Ore. (Jan. 18) – Alaska Anchorage junior Spencer Svejcar has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball after helping the Seawolves remain unbeaten in conference play with wins over longtime rivals Montana State Billings and Alaska Fairbanks last week.
The 6-4 guard from Arvada, Colo. (Ralston Valley HS/Laramie County CC) totaled 41 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while shooting .565 from the floor, .643 on three-pointers and 6-of-6 at the free-throw line in the two games. He also committed just one turnover in 75 total minutes, including none in UAA season-high 42 minutes at UAF.
On Tuesday, Svejcar had 19 points (6-10 FG, 5-8 3FG), three assists and five rebounds to help UAA to an 81-61 home victory over MSU Billings. In Saturday’s clash for first place at Alaska Fairbanks, he tallied a career-high 22 points (7-13 FG, 4-6 3FG, 4-4 FT) and grabbed four rebounds, hitting the game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left in regulation and the go-ahead trey in overtime of the 100-91 win.
Winners of nine straight, the Seawolves head south this week for a pair of games in Oregon, beginning with Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. AST showdown against nationally ranked and second-place Western Oregon in Monmouth. That game, along with Saturday’s game at Concordia (6:30 p.m. AST), can be seen live online at portal.stretchinternet.com/uaa.
