PORTLAND, Ore. (Jan. 5) – On the heels of his big performances in a pair of exciting home victories, Alaska Anchorage junior Brian McGill was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball on Monday.
McGill, a 6-2 point guard, totaled 48 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, shooting 55 percent from the floor and 88 percent on free throws as the Seawolves claimed a share of first place in the early league standings with wins over Simon Fraser (108-86) and Western Washington (62-60).
On Thursday, the Clackamas, Oregon, native scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds in just 26 minutes of action to help UAA prevail in the first-ever GNAC game at the new Alaska Airlines Center.
On Saturday, McGill had 20 points and five assists, hitting the game-winning basket with 6.5 seconds remaining to help UAA snap an eight-game losing streak against the Vikings. He shot 6 of 11 from the floor and a perfect 8 of 8 at the foul stripe.
The Seawolves (7-7, 3-1 GNAC) play their next three games on the road, beginning Saturday at 7 p.m. with a showdown against Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center.
