UAA signs 6-9 Aussie Curtis Ryan

ANCHORAGE (Nov. 25) – The Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team has gone Down Under again to start its 2015-16 recruiting class as head coach Rusty Osborne announced Wednesday that Curtis Ryan has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seawolves.

From Warrnambool, Australia, Ryan currently plays for his hometown club, the Warrnambool Seahawks, having recently returned from a long bout with tendinitis.

Prior to his injury, the 6-9, 230-pound forward was one of the top players for the Victoria state youth team.

“We are extremely excited about the addition of Curtis to our program,” said Osborne, currently in his 11th year at UAA. “He is a player we identified two summers ago while he was playing in the States on a travel team. We have been recruiting and building a relationship since that time.

“Curtis has spent some time off the past year fighting some tendinitis in his knees, but now has it under control. Before his injury, he was one of the most promising young big men in Victoria. Although 6-9 and 230 lbs, Curtis is a very good athlete as well, with a tremendous work ethic. He can play both inside and out, and has the ability to shoot out to the three-point line, and post up as well. He is another great addition to complement our other young post players.”

Ryan will become the eighth Australian to play for the Seawolves – all since 2004 – including current redshirt sophomore Jackson McTier.
