UAA's McGill is GNAC Red Lion Player of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. (Dec. 9) – Alaska Anchorage sophomore Brian McGill was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Red Lion Player of the Week for men’s basketball on Monday, following a 29-point, 10-assist performance in Saturday’s league-opening victory over Alaska Fairbanks.

McGill, a 6-2 point guard, became just the fifth player in 14 years to tally at least 25 points and 10 assists in a GNAC game, shooting 8 of 12 from the field – including 2 of 2 on three-pointers – and 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. The Clackamas, Ore., native also grabbed four rebounds in UAA’s 96-76 home victory over the Nanooks.

The honor marks UAA’s first Red Lion Player of the Week award this season.

The Seawolves (6-4, 1-0 GNAC) return to action Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 16-17, with a home series against Northland (Wis.) International at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. Tip-off is 7 p.m. both nights.
