SPOKANE, Wash. (Jan. 2) – Alaska Anchorage senior Taylor Rohde was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week for men’s basketball on Monday, following his impressive play in a home sweep of Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings.
The 6-9 center from Phoenix, Ariz. (Pinnacle HS/Arizona State) totaled team-highs of 43 points on 84 percent shooting, 16 rebounds and three blocks as the 21st-ranked Seawolves (17-4, 11-2) beat the two teams directly behind them in the GNAC standings.
Against Billings on Saturday, Rohde shot 11 of 13 from the field and 8 of 10 at the free-throw line to total 30 points, while his 11 rebounds were good for his sixth double-double this year. In the previous game, he totaled 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and led UAA with five boards against SPU.
The preseason All-American currently leads the GNAC in scoring (20.1 ppg) and field-goal percentage (.629) and ranks third in rebounding (8.1 ppg) – just one-tenth of a point behind the leader. It is Rohde’s second POW honor this season (Dec. 26-Jan. 1) and the fourth in his two-year Seawolf career.
UAA takes its six-game winning streak on the road this week to face 16th-ranked Western Washington (20-3, 11-1) on Thursday (6 p.m. AST) in a first-place showdown in Bellingham, Wash.
