The Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team has received a No. 12 ranking, while senior Taylor Rohde has also been tabbed as a 2011-12 preseason All-American, according to a pair of preseason publications.
The Seawolves, coming off a 24-10 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round, are ranked 12th by Division II Bulletin. The same publication also recognized Rohde among its ‘Super 16’ All-American squad.
Rohde, a 6-9 center from Phoenix, was also chosen as a second-team preseason All-American by The Sporting News after posting numbers of 16.1 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 61.4 percent shooting in 2010-11.
UAA is the highest-ranked Great Northwest Athletic Conference team in the D-II Bulletin rankings, and is among four West Region teams, along with No. 3 BYU-Hawaii, No. 21 Humboldt State and No. 24 Seattle Pacific.
The official NCAA Div. II weekly rankings are conducted by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and will be released later.
