ANCHORAGE (Jan. 20) – Senior Casey Robinson scored all 22 of his points in the second half and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds Thursday to boost Alaska Anchorage to a 79-59 men’s basketball victory over Western Oregon at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves (14-4, 6-1 GNAC) also got 14 points and seven rebounds from junior center Taylor Rohde, plus 11 points, five rebounds and five assists from senior wing Brandon Walker to pull away in the second half.

The Wolves (9-9, 4-4) were led by 16 points and three assists from junior guard Blair Wheadon, while forward Jamaal Veal chipped in 11 points off the bench.

UAA led 28-26 at halftime as the visitors from Monmouth, Ore., held the Seawolves to 35.5 percent shooting in the opening stanza. But the Seawolves came out hot in the second half, getting a three-pointer from Robinson and a soaring dunk from Walker to start the scoring. WOU sliced its deficit back to 33-31 at the 16:38 mark before UAA stretched its advantage with the next seven points, sparked by another trey from Robinson.

Robinson shot 7 of 9 from long range in the second half after missing his first four treys of the night. The 6-6 forward from Manila, Utah, posted a season-high point total as he helped UAA shoot 63 percent (17 of 27) from the field after the break.

The point-guard combo of junior Steve White and senior Drew Robinson was effective again, too, totaling 10 assists and just two turnovers. White scored 10 points as he nailed 5 of 6 free throws, and Robinson – returning from a two-game absence due to ankle and head injuries – added six points on 2-of-3 shooting, including a three-pointer.

Meanwhile, Rohde shot 6 of 8 from the field to improve his season field-goal percentage to .620. UAA’s leading scorer reached double digits for the 12th straight game despite battling foul trouble most of the night.

With the victory and Central Washington’s 86-73 win over Western Washington in Ellensburg, the Seawolves now stand alone in second place in the GNAC standings, one-half game behind CWU.

UAA returns to the WFSC – where it is 6-0 this season – for part two of a four-game homestand when it hosts Saint Martin’s (11-7, 4-4) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
