UAA women, men hold steady in regional polls

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 10) – The Alaska Anchorage teams held their respective positions in the West Region on Wednesday as the NCAA released its latest Division II regional rankings for men’s and women’s basketball.

 

The Seawolf women (16-3 overall, 14-3 vs Div. II) are rated No. 4 in the West for the second straight week, while the men (13-6, 8-4) hold steady at No. 8. Both squads posted road victories over Alaska Fairbanks in their only games last week.

 

UAA’s women are No. 17 in this week’s national poll, but only the regional rankings matter in terms of making the NCAA Tournament. The top eight teams in D-II’s eight regions qualify for their respective regional tournaments, which are generally hosted by the top seed. There will be three more regional polls until the NCAA fields are announced on Sunday, Mar. 7.

 

Both teams return to the Wells Fargo Sports Complex for critical games against Western Washington – rated No. 1 on the men’s side and No. 2 on the women’s – on Thursday evening. The doubleheader tips off at 5:15 p.m.
