UAA women 4th, men 9th in West Region polls

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 17) – The Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball team retained its No. 4 West Region ranking, while the Seawolf men dropped to No. 9 in the latest NCAA Division II regional polls, released Wednesday.

 

The Seawolf women (18-3 overall, 16-3 vs Div. II) stayed fourth as the top four teams remained the same for the second straight week. UAA has won four straight games, including last Thursday against regionally 2^nd-ranked Western Washington.

 

UAA’s men (14-7, 9-5) dropped from eighth to ninth in this week’s poll after splitting two games last week, putting the Seawolves on the outside of the playoff bubble with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

 

The Seawolf women are No. 14 in this week’s national poll, but only the regional rankings matter in terms of making the NCAA Tournament. The top eight teams in D-II’s eight regions qualify for their respective regional tournaments, which are generally hosted by the top seed. There will be two more regional polls until the NCAA fields are announced on Sunday, Mar. 7.

 

Both teams return to action in Monmouth, Ore., on Thursday for a doubleheader (women at 4:15 p.m., men at 6:30 p.m. AST) against Western Oregon.
