UAA's Robinson earns GNAC weekly award

UAA’s Robinson earns GNAC weekly award

SPOKANE, Wash. (Dec. 14) – Alaska Anchorage junior Casey Robinson was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s men’s basketball Player of the Week on Monday after propelling the Seawolves to a pair of victories at the Glacier Classic in Fairbanks, Dec. 11-12.

Robinson, a 6-6 forward from Manila, Utah (Eastern Wyoming College), led UAA offensively and defensively as it claimed an 81-69 win over Grace Bible and a 67-38 victory over West Region foe Grand Canyon.

At the offensive end, he scored 30 points (10-20 FGs, 6-12 3FGs) and four rebounds in the two games, while on the defensive end he had five rebounds and six steals, and helped hold the two opposing starting power forwards to a combined six points on 2-of-8 shooting.

The Seawolves (5-2) held Grand Canyon scoreless for the first nine minutes and to 10 total first-half points in Saturday’s win, setting a school record for fewest points allowed against a D-II opponent. Robinson scored all 15 of his points in the first half as UAA jumped to a 33-10 lead at the break.

It is the first career award for Robinson and the second for the Seawolves this year. Junior guard Brandon Walker was likewise honored after his performance in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout two weeks ago.

UAA returns to action this weekend when it hosts key West Region contests against Western New Mexico and Chaminade in the annual AT&T Jamboree. The Seawolves tip off at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the final games of daily triple-headers at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
