Former Nome star Blandford joins Seawolves

ANCHORAGE (Sept. 14) – Alaska Anchorage head coach Rusty Osborne announced Monday that former Nome-Beltz High School star Jesse Blandford has joined the Seawolf program.

A two-time First Team All-State selection by the Anchorage Daily News, Blandford led Nome-Beltz to an ASAA Class 3A State runner-up finish in 2008-09. The 6-0, 180-pound guard paced the Nanooks in scoring (23.0 ppg), steals and three-point percentage (.420) as they finished with a 22-5 record and their second consecutive Western Conference championship.

As a junior, Blandford piloted his club to a 24-4 mark and a third-place finish at the state tournament, averaging 19.6 points per contest. With over 200 three-pointers made, he finished as Nome-Beltz’s leading career scorer with 1,863 points.

“Jesse is a tremendous young man as well as an excellent student, and we are excited to have him join the Seawolf family,” said Osborne, who begins his sixth season as head coach when the Seawolves hit the practice floor in mid-October. “He is a great shooter coming off an outstanding high school career. W expect Jesse to continue in the recent tradition of success we have had with Alaska 3A high school standouts such as Carl Arts, Chris Bryant and Lonnie Ridgeway.”
