Augusta State junior guard tabbed league's Player Of The Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State's Ben Madgen was named the Peach Belt
Conference's Men's Basketball Player Of The Week Monday afternoon,
according to an announcement from the league office.

A 6-4 junior guard from Williamstown, Australia, Madgen helped lead
10th-ranked ASU to a 3-0 record last week. He poured in a career-high
33 points, including four 3-pointers, in ASU's 87-76 victory over
second-ranked USC Aiken on Monday, Jan. 5 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
He scored nine points in a season-low 22 minutes as ASU cruised to an
81-46 win over UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Madgen then bounced back with 23 points – 14 in the second half – and
delivered the game-winning basket on a driving layup with 1.5 seconds
left as the Jags rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half
and claimed a 74-72 over Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday, Jan. 10.

For the week, he averaged 21.7 ppg., and shot 51.2 percent from the
field, 50.0 percent from 3-point range and 86.7 percent at the
free-throw line while combining for eight 3-pointers.

With his 23 points vs. the Pirates, Madgen moved up to No. 14 on the
ASU career scoring list with 1,231 points.

The Jags take on Lander on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m., at Finis
Horne Arena in Greenwood, S.C.
